Newsom releases ‘action plan’ to clean up California’s filthiest, crime-ridden, poorly governed city

In a significant move aimed at bolstering public safety and enhancing the aesthetic appeal of Oakland’s streets, Governor Gavin Newsom has revealed Caltrans’ 10-Point Action Plan. This comprehensive strategy outlines a range of measures designed to support the City of Oakland, addressing issues such as street safety, beautification, and community well-being.

The 10-Point Action Plan, a collaborative effort by Caltrans District 4 (Bay Area) and the city, encompasses a multifaceted approach to uplift Oakland’s neighborhoods. Key highlights of the plan include the installation of security cameras, intensified maintenance efforts, increased focus on litter abatement and landscaping, strategies to address homeless encampments, local hiring events, community clean-ups, and various beautification projects.

Governor Newsom emphasized the importance of fostering a clean and safe environment in Oakland, stating, “Oakland is a beautiful city, and we must ensure its neighborhoods are clean and safe. Building on top of existing efforts — including the state’s $1.2 billion Clean California program — this 10-Point Action Plan will further assist the city in cleaning up neighborhoods, enriching public spaces by removing litter and debris, and improving safety on our streets.”
