Kuminga Placing ‘Faith’ in Contract Extension

The Golden State Warriors have a month before deciding whether Jonathan Kuminga is worthy of a contract extension. The deadline to give Kuminga the extension is Oct. 21. According to previous reports, the Warriors aren’t ready to give a maximum rookie contract extension. However, instead of pressing the Warriors or moping in the media, Kuminga evoked the presence of faith to cope during the negotiations.

“Everybody’s got their time when God opens their doors. My door isn’t open yet. At some point it’s going to be open,” Kuminga said to Bar Area media legend and member of the San Francisco Standard Tim Kawakami.

Anthony Slater of The Athletic previously reported the Warriors weren’t ready to give Kuminga the maximum rookie contract extension. However, if Kuminga were willing to take less, perhaps Golden State would play ball. Scottie Barnes and Franz Wagner earned deals worth $224 million, and Kuminga is looking for something similar.

However, Kuminga’s recent comments allude to the Warriors forward playing his season to the fullest and waiting for free agency.
