Giants linked to $200 million star shortstop after strong 2024 season

The 2024 season ended in disappointment for the San Francisco Giants, who went 80-82 and finished in fourth place in the National League West, while also missing the postseason.

They’ll need to spend some money if they want to contend in 2025. They haven’t reached October since 2021 and have finished .500 or below in each of the last three seasons.

Some extra offense wouldn’t hurt. Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report even listed them as a possible fit for Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Willy Adames.

San Francisco has already spent a little bit of money, having given third baseman Matt Chapman a six-year, $151 million contract extension. This could set the stage for more spending this winter.

Adames is projected to receive a deal worth at least $200 million. He hit .251 this season with 32 home runs, 112 RBI, 21 stolen bases, and a .793 OPS.

He would significantly upgrade the Giants offense and give finally give them a star player to build around. He and Chapman could become a dangerous duo in the middle of the order.
