The Thanksgiving Day church attack was in Antioch, California, not Virginia

Pastor used martial arts on would-be robber

Several news reports about a thwarted robbery attempt in Family First Church in Antioch did not list the state, which led to some Virginians asking if the incident took place in the Commonwealth.

The pastor who fought off the axe-wielding burglar on Thanksgiving Day was in Antioch, California. Nick Neves of Family First Church used martial arts against the would-be thief.

There is a Family First Ministries in Leesburg, and Antioch, Virginia, is an unincorporated town in Prince William County. If the article had stated that the attempted burglary occurred in California, there would not have been confusion.
