SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Rikki’s, San Francisco’s first women’s sports bar, is getting ready to open up in the city’s Castro neighborhood.

The bar is expected to open sometime in the spring. It will call the area of Market and Sanchez Streets its home — the former location for Copas, a Mexican restaurant.
The bars co-owners, Sara Yergovich and Danielle Thoe, met playing soccer for the San Francisco Spikes. They told KRON4 that they bonded over their struggle to find a bar to watch women’s sports.
“We wanted to open the bar because we were struggling to find reliable places to watch women’s sports in San Francisco,” said Yergovich. “We wanted to have a place where you could come in and know that you can find community and know that you can watch all the amazing women’s sports coming out right now.”
“Seeing two professional teams in the biggest women’s sports leagues in the U.S., coming within a year of each other, was like, ‘Okay, this really is the moment. This is the time,’” said Thoe. “There’s so much excitement. You see all the season ticket deposits for the Valkyries. It was something we knew we wanted to work on, and it was extra motivation like, ‘the time is right. Let’s do it now.’”
