‘Frankly, ridiculous’: SF’s biggest new park of the year keeps getting vandalized

A controversial public park slated to take over a 2-mile stretch of the former Great Highway was targeted with anti-park graffiti for a second time this month.

The graffiti, located on the closed-off portion of the road near Noriega Street, was discovered Sunday by San Francisco Recreation and Park Department officials, who believe the spray-painted messages were left overnight, according to a Monday news release.

Vandals spray-painted phrases such as “gentriffy,” “Your bringing trouble,” “open highway” and “bad idea” on the concrete sidewalk and the road.

Members of the nonprofit group Friends of Ocean Beach Park cleaned the graffiti on Sunday morning, a process that took about two hours, Lucas Lux, the president of the organization, told SFGATE…
