S.F. leaders want to go after social media accounts promoting dirt bikers as part of crackdown

Racing down streets with a deafening roar, popping wheelies and jamming traffic, dirt bikers have become a common sight in San Francisco, frustrating residents, scaring pedestrians and quickly moving up the priority list for politicians and police.

This week a city supervisor told the Chronicle he is working on legislation to help police crack down on the dirt bikers who flout traffic laws by targeting the social media accounts that promote them and expanding the use of drone surveillance.

Supervisor Danny Sauter, who represents popular destinations in San Francisco like downtown, Fisherman’s Wharf and North Beach, said he is drafting legislation to be introduced in the next few months that would loosen rules around the use of drones by the San Francisco Police Department to better track the bands of dirt bikers when they burn rubber across the city…
