The Oakland Police Department needs 277 more police officers than are currently budgeted to effectively patrol the city, according to a draft study conducted by an independent consulting firm.
In late 2023, the city of Oakland hired the Philadelphia-based PFM Group Consulting to assess OPD’s staffing levels relative to its baseline workload over the past five years. The Oaklandside obtained a draft copy of the report through a public records request.
Zurvohn Maloof, the Oakland Police Commission’s inspector general, said the report is a draft and its conclusions shouldn’t be taken as final. PFM Group Consulting has until June to make changes to the report, he said…
