A San Francisco man has been convicted of driving under the influence on I-80, as the District Attorney’s office confirms. George Callen, 34, was found guilty by a jury after being stopped near Treasure Island on January 1st for speeding and showing clear signs of intoxication. In a recent announcement, District Attorney Brooke Jenkins expressed her gratitude towards the jurors for delivering justice in a case that endangered the lives of many on the road. According to the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office, Jenkins emphasized, “I am grateful no one was hurt in this incident where the driver was not only driving under the influence, which is extremely dangerous on its own, but the driver was also traveling at a high rate of speed, compounding the risk to himself and others on the road.”
Testimony and evidence indicated that the California Highway Patrol pulled over Callen for excessive speed after partaking in New Year’s Eve festivities. During the investigation at the scene, Callen underwent Field Sobriety Tests (FSTs) and Preliminary Alcohol Screening (PAS) tests, revealing a blood alcohol content (BAC) of 0.146% and 0.147%, which is substantially over the 0.08 percent limit. A subsequent chemical breath test at the San Francisco CHP Area Office confirmed his high BAC levels. Per the SF District Attorney’s Office, Assistant District Attorney Samantha Phelan said, “I am grateful that after carefully considering the evidence in this case, the jury delivered a fair and just verdict.”…
