Oakland Vietnamese noodle soup spot closing this weekend after nearly 10 years

(KRON) — One of the most popular pho spots in Oakland is closing this weekend after nearly a decade. Vietnamese restaurant Pho Vy is officially shuttering its doors for good on Sunday, May 18, the business shared in a social media post.

“We want to express our deepest gratitude for your amazing support and loyalty to Pho Vy Vietnamese Cuisine since 2016,” the restaurant wrote in part of its farewell post. “Without your support we wouldn’t have made it this far!”

Owner Tuan Nguyen said he wants to “slow down and take care of their aging parents” as a reason for the closure, according to an Instagram post shared on Pho Vy’s page. Nguyen, who owns the restaurant with his wife Tran Truong, says the closure is temporary and “ideally” plans to reopen elsewhere in Oakland.

Pho Vy, located on International Boulevard near Lake Merritt, opened back in 2016. The restaurant cited, according to the post Pho Vy shared, “the usual mélange” of reasons why many Oakland restaurants have closed in recent years.
