SAN FRANCISCO — A heroic act turned tragic Wednesday afternoon when a man died after attempting to rescue a dog from the surf near Ocean Beach and Lawton Street, the San Francisco Fire Department stated.
According to the San Francisco Fire Department, 911 callers reported the fully clothed man entered the water to save a dog before collapsing for unknown reasons. Two women entered the surf and successfully pulled him to shore, administering CPR while waiting for help, firefighters stated.
Golden Gate National Recreation Area Ocean Rescue teams arrived within two minutes, followed by San Francisco Fire Paramedics, who continued life-saving efforts. Despite advanced medical care, the man was later pronounced dead at a local hospital, firefighters stated. …
