Neighbors Cry Foul as 38,000 Truckloads of Soil Begin to Move at Seven Hills Ranch Development

WALNUT CREEK, CALIFORNIA – Contra Costa County’s long-debated Seven Hills Ranch senior community is finally moving dirt—and nearby residents say the reality is louder, earlier, and dustier than they were promised.

Others fired back, citing NIMBYism and other concerns.

“A very expensive for-profit plan”

Construction crews began leveling the 30-acre hillside off Ygnacio Valley Road this spring to make way for The Glen at Heather Farm, a 354-unit continuing-care community backed by Spieker Senior Development Partners. The project, approved by county supervisors in 2022, will remove roughly 400 trees and move 375,000 cubic yards of soil before foundations are poured.

By our calculations, since a typical dump truck carries about 10 cubic yards of soil, that’s about 38,000 truckloads…
