A longtime Recology mechanic and union member died in a tragic workplace accident in San Francisco last week, prompting an outpouring of grief from co-workers, loved ones and labor leaders.
Alfredo Romero was working his shift at the Tunnel Avenue Recology facility on May 16 when he died, according to his family. He spent more than four decades in the waste management industry, they said in a GoFundMe post, remembering him as a “quiet dependability” among his peers.
“Brother Romero was more than a skilled tradesman, he was a dependable coworker, a dedicated union brother, and a vital part of our Local 350 family,” Teamsters Local 350 leaders wrote in a statement.
