Though it’s hard to imagine from looking at the sedate facade of 324 Corbett Ave., this condo in San Francisco’s Twin Peaks neighborhood once gave shelter to world-famous musician Sylvester James Jr., better known simply as “Sylvester” — and even better known as the “Queen of Disco.” Now, decades later, this home is for sale, asking $1.698 million.
The condo is spacious: a three-bedroom, three-bathroom abode of 2,024 square feet, on top of a single-car garage (ownership of which transfers with the sale of the condo). It is one of only two units in the building, situated nicely on Corbett Avenue to afford classic Twin Peaks views. From the upper floor, the large primary suite looks out on the hills of Sutro Heights and the iconic Sutro Tower.
This view would have looked very much the same in the 1970s, when, after the building was completed in 1977, one of its first tenants was Sylvester James Jr. James launched his career by playing in gay bars such as The Stud and The EndUp. Recording under the name Sylvester, he eventually rose to world fame for disco hits such as “You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)” and “Dance (Disco Heat).”
