S.F. prosecutors charge man with DUI, manslaughter after pedestrian killed in SoMa

A 28-year-old man was charged with vehicular manslaughter while driving under the influence this week after hitting and killing a pedestrian, San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced Friday.

Prosecutors said Manuel Diaz-Chi was driving his Mazda van on 10th Street toward Folsom Street after 5 a.m. Tuesday and following other vehicles too closely when he passed through the intersection. Diaz-Chi was allegedly unable to slow down, prosecutors said, and accelerated around other cars before hitting a pedestrian in the middle of the intersection.

Diaz-Chi continued driving — dragging the victim — for another block before pulling over in the 400 block of 10th Street, the district attorney’s office said…
