Hundreds took to overpasses above Berkeley’s I-80 freeway June 14, joining protesters across the United States taking part in “No Kings” demonstrations.
About 700 people gathered from approximately 11:45 a.m. to about 2:30 p.m.at the University Avenue and Gilman Street overpasses. Participants walked the overpass, chanting and holding homemade signs against the fencing of the bridges as they cheered at vehicles passing below.
Handmade signs featured messages including “No kings since 1776,” “No king in the USA” and “Honk for democracy.” Protesters chanted, “What do we want? Democracy! When do we want it? Now!”…
