A new clue has been released in one of the most senseless and shocking killings in recent San Francisco history. The FBI issued a sketch of a second man possibly linked to the the so-called Pokemon Go killing of 20-year-old baseball player Calvin Riley nine years ago.
Riley was playing the augmented reality game on his phone in San Francisco’s Aquatic Park, the popular tourist beach near Ghirardelli Square, on the evening of Aug. 6, 2016. Riley and a friend were exploring the promenade at about 9:50 p.m. when a man approached Riley and shot him in the torso. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The motivation for the killing was unclear — no words were exchanged between the men, and Riley’s wallet and phone were untouched, investigators said.
A sketch of a suspect was released at the time, and authorities also said they were looking for a 2006 to 2009 dark-colored Audi A3 wagon and a 2013 white four-door Hyundai Sonata, but those leads yielded no arrests.
The FBI took over the case in 2023 and has now released the sketch of a second man believed to be linked to the crime, and more details on the string of events at Aquatic Park. The individual pictured in the original police sketch is believed to be the driver of the a vehicle at the scene and was accompanied by a blonde woman, around 20 to 30 years of age. The new sketch depicts a second man with glasses and a beard who was “observed recording video at the crime scene,” the FBI said in a new wanted poster.
The two vehicles previously identified at the scene arrived together, shortly before the killing, and left together immediately after the homicide, the FBI said…
