Affordable housing construction is taking off in Oakland

The slow trickle of affordable housing construction in Oakland has turned into a steady stream.

The city issued permits for about 700 low-income homes last year, and another 100 priced for “moderate-income” residents, according to a new housing “progress report” from the city.
