Geologists detected hundreds of small earthquakes Tuesday at Mount Rainier in the largest earthquake swarm measured there in more than 15 years.
Beginning around 1:30 a.m., as many as several earthquakes a minute struck between 1 and 4 miles below the summit, in an ongoing swarm expected to last for days, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The largest was a 1.7-magnitude quake, too small to feel at the surface or to cause any damage.
