Oakland School for the Arts is seeking to expand into its second historic East Bay theater before the upcoming school year begins in August.
The public, nonprofit charter middle and high school is in the process of acquiring the Dufwin Theater, which sits at 519 17th St., one block away from its current hub at the Fox Theater.
“Establishing a permanent space in downtown to complement our space in the Fox will be a game changer for OSA and for Downtown Oakland,” OSA Executive Director Mike Oz told the Chronicle. “We’ve been looking for additional space for years — at least five years — to just make sure that we no longer have to have our classrooms double as both arts and academic classes.”…
