Who Could Resist a Tale of a Baby Squirrel Rescue?

A newborn squirrel is recovering after it fell from its nest and was quickly rescued by Animal Control Officer Alaina Onesko on Wednesday, July 31—and the photos are absolutely heartwarming, as is Alameda Police Department’s recounting of the tale on Facebook.

“You never know what Animal Control Officer Onesko has up her sleeve…” APD posted. “No, seriously, this time it is a neonate squirrel!”

The story continued to say that ACO Onesko—or simply ACO Alaina, as she is known to her many fans in Alameda—-responded to Fairview Avenue and High Street for the report of an abandoned baby squirrel on Wednesday after the wee baby likely fell from its nest high in a nearby tree.

The story was posted on Thursday, and by Friday morning, almost 400 people had liked, loved, or cared about it. Twenty-nine had commented on it, and more than a dozen had shared it. Local TV stations reported on it, including KRON Channel 4 News…
