On Monday, August 4, at approximately 2:43 p.m., Alameda Fire Department (AFD) personnel responded to a call for water rescue near the Ballena Bay Marina, according to a department report posted on Facebook and Instagram.
The initial response included two engine companies with one responding in a rescue boat, one ladder truck with the fire boat, one rescue company, one medic unit, a chief officer, and AFD’s Community Assessment Response & Engagement (CARE) Team, the report stated. Alameda Police Department also provided support at the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters located an adult male in the water near the shoreline adjacent to Crown Drive. The individual was floating near the rocks, according to the report. Fire personnel entered the water to secure the victim, then a ladder system was deployed to safely remove him from the water.
The victim was subsequently transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation and treatment. No further information about the man’s condition was available.
