Cactus Jungle to close store on Berkeley’s Fourth Street after 2 decades

Cactus Jungle Nursery and Garden will sell its last succulent in Berkeley this month after 23 years in the city. The lease on the Fourth Street lot that the shop has called home for the last two decades is coming to an end and the owner intends to sell the space, according to Cactus Jungle co-founder Peter Lipson. The company’s Marin County location, which opened in 2017, will remain open.

The nearly 7,000-square-foot lot on Fourth Street, which does not include a building, is listed for sale with a $875,000 price tag.

The Berkeley location had five employees, two of whom were recently laid off because of the impending closure, Lipson said. The remaining three, including two full-time workers, will work until the end of the month. Cactus Jungle was able to offer severance packages to two long-term employees.
