Here’s a snapshot of the state of Bay Area theater: While the 60th anniversary of the Grateful Dead attracted tens of thousands to Golden Gate Park the first weekend of August, giving Haight-Ashbury merchants the “biggest weekend for us of the year,” the venerable Magic Theatre indefinitely postponed its world premiere of “Jerry Garcia in the Lower Mission,” citing difficulty fundraising.
“This is as devastating as it gets,” Magic Theatre Lead Director Sean San José said in a statement accompanying the July 26 announcement.
