The Oakland Unified School District must open up its buildings to a Christian ministry for meetings that take place after school, a U.S. District Court judge has ordered, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.
“It is not clear how much of a dispute actually exists here,” said U.S. District Judge Haywood S. Gilliam, according to the Chronicle. “The Court finds that the law and facts clearly favor Plaintiff’s position that OUSD violated CEF’s free speech rights.”
The ruling comes after a lawsuit was filed against the school district by the Child Evangelism Fellowship, which claimed Oakland Unified had made space available to non-religious organizations, like the Girl Scouts, but not to Good News Clubs, which used to use district space for a decade before the Covid-19 pandemic…
