Richmond man charged with attempted murder in bus driver attack

A Richmond man has been charged with attempted murder after prosecutors say he attacked his spouse, an AC Transit bus driver, with a knife and pepper spray aboard a bus near the Richmond BART station earlier this week.

Mandingo Alfroconus Hayes, 54, faces multiple felony and misdemeanor charges, including attempted murder with an enhancement for use of a knife, two counts of injuring a spouse, resisting arrest, disobeying a court order, and unlawful possession of tear gas, the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office said Thursday.

The attack happened around 7:35 a.m. Monday on an AC Transit bus. Prosecutors said Hayes assaulted the driver, who had just completed her shift, causing knife wounds and pepper spray exposure. She was taken to a hospital for treatment…
