Smoke left by BART train brakes inside the Transbay Tube prompted officials shut down the system between San Francisco and Oakland Friday, leaving thousands of commuters stranded during rush hour. The San Francisco Fire Department said in a social media post that firefighters responded to the Embarcadero BART station to investigate a fire on the tracks inside the Transbay Tube reported at about 6:02 p.m. After investigation, the department determined “it was a BART train’s brakes that left smoke that lingered.”
One BART rider shared a photo on social media of a smoky train car and said the train was “completely filled with smoke” while stopped in the Transbay Tube. “Scariest experience I’ve had,” the BART rider wrote.
Outside the Embarcadero Station in San Francisco, firefighters and paramedics stood around with gurneys at the ready. No injuries were reported, however…
