‘Cash bleed’: One of the Bay Area’s biggest craft breweries is shutting down

21st Amendment Brewery, a Bay Area beer trailblazer that was once among the largest craft breweries in the country, will shut down.

Company co-founder Nico Freccia told the Chronicle the company will wind down production at its celebrated San Francisco brewpub and massive San Leandro production facility in the coming months.

The company has seen a major decline in sales as the larger American craft beer market contracts. The brewery’s lender informed them that it would no longer fund the company due to its “cash bleed,” prompting the decision to close. Nov. 4 is the planned final day of operations, though the company hopes a buyer will step up to continue the brewery’s legacy…
