Parents complained earlier this year about inappropriate grooming behavior by a Walnut Creek charter school teacher, but administrators failed to investigate or discipline the teacher in the months before he allegedly raped and impregnated a 17-year-old student on campus, according to a new lawsuit.
The survivor and her mother filed a lawsuit Wednesday in Contra Costa County Superior Court against Charthouse Public Schools and the alleged perpetrator, Gerard Michael Flaherty, over allegations of sexual assault and negligence by school officials at the Contra Costa School of Performing Arts earlier this year.
The case is already under criminal investigation. Walnut Creek police arrested Flaherty, a 43-year-old Pleasant Hill resident, in April. Prosecutors charged him with forcible rape of a child over 14, assault with intent to commit a felony and unlawful sexual intercourse, according to court records…
