Man charged in Berkeley hit-and-run rampage that left 3 hospitalized

Alameda County District Attorney’s officials charged a man Thursday with premeditated attempted murder and other felonies connected to a stunning hit-and-run and carjacking incident that injured three people this week in Berkeley.

Prosecutors charged Ivan Salvador Ochoa Munguia with 19 criminal counts — 16 of them felonies — after he was arrested Tuesday morning for allegedly striking three random pedestrians deliberately. Officials said the suspect was driving a stolen car when he drove onto a sidewalk near the UC Berkeley campus and struck two people just before 7:45 a.m.

Police later found another hit-and-run victim on Derby Street. Officials said Ochoa Munguia raced away and abandoned the car near Emerson Elementary School, where he attempted to carjack a person before fleeing on foot…
