Starbucks mass closures include several in San Francisco, East Bay

Starbucks is permanently closing stores in Fisherman’s Wharf, the Castro and three in the Tri-Valley, part of its sweeping restructuring that includes over 900 corporate layoffs and over 400 shuttered locations.

The Seattle coffee giant’s store map showed 49 Jefferson St. in San Francisco as closed, across the street from the wharf’s SkyStar ferris wheel. A sign at the Starbucks at 4094 18th St. in the Castro also stated it will close at the end of the week, though it was still open Friday.

Girlie Vedad, 44, was leaving Starbucks with a pumpkin spice latte on Friday morning — but she planned to come back in the afternoon to give the location extra business before it closed. Vedad works as an optician in the Castro and buys coffee from Starbucks four or five times a week…
