Three Bay Area residents charged in $100,000 ATM ‘jackpotting’ theft

Police in Ukiah (Mendocino County) say three Bay Area residents were arrested in connection with an overnight theft that drained more than $100,000 from two ATMs at a local bank — a scheme authorities describe as part of a growing wave of sophisticated “jackpotting” attacks.

Jackpotting is a type of cyberattack where criminals exploit vulnerabilities in ATMs, forcing them to dispense cash without debiting an account.
