Federal officials have called off a planned immigration enforcement action for the entire Bay Area, Oakland Mayor Barbara Lee said Friday.
In a statement, Lee said that Alameda County Sheriff Yesenia Sanchez confirmed with federal law enforcement officials that “operations are cancelled for the greater Bay Area — which includes Oakland.”
On Thursday, President Donald Trump said that he would hold off sending federal agents to San Francisco on Saturday after being persuaded by tech leaders and Mayor Daniel Lurie to pause a planned immigration crackdown in the city — but there were previously no assurances that crackdowns wouldn’t happen in other parts of the Bay Area.
