Man arrested in Bay Area school burglaries targeting teachers’ credit cards, police say

A man has been arrested in connection with several Bay Area school burglaries in which he is suspected of infiltrating classrooms to steal teachers’ credit cards, police said Wednesday.

Christopher Britton — who has been linked to school campus thefts in Solano, Contra Costa, Marin, Alameda and Yolo counties — was arrested in Walnut Creek this week while returning a rental vehicle that police suspect was used during one of the burglaries, the Fremont Police Department said in a statement.

Fremont police have been searching for Britton since Oct. 3, when a Fremont elementary school reported a suspicious individual walking around campus, police said. The individual, later identified as Britton, gave school staff conflicting reasoning for being on school grounds and left.
