1 rescued after small sailboat crashes up against rock wall near Encinal Beach in Alameda

(KRON) — One person was rescued Wednesday morning after a small sailboat crashed into the rock wall near the Encinal Boat Ramp in Alameda. The vessel was taking on water when rescue personnel responded just after 7 a.m., according to the Alameda Fire Department.

One person was rescued and treated at a nearby hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The response team consisted of two engines, one truck company, one rescue company, one ambulance, the Alameda CARE team, one battalion chief, Alameda Fireboat 1, Oakland Fire Marine 1, and two staff captains.

First responders arrived to find the vessel, a 25-foot sailboat, against the rocks, with one person on board. Crews contacted the victim who asked to be rescued. Crews then awaited the arrival of Fireboat 1 to conduct the rescue.

But while awaiting the fireboat, the sailboat’s anchor line broke and the boat drifted with the swell into the boat ramp dock where crews were able to extricate the victim. The boat was secured to the boat ramp dock…
