(KRON) — An Oakland Department of Motor Vehicles that was closed earlier this year after being struck by vandals is due to reopen Monday. The Oakland Coliseum DMV office at 501 85th Avenue was closed back in April after staff discovered a leaky water pipe in the ceiling that caused flooding and extensive damage.

Officials determined that someone stole wiring that cut electricity to the building’s HVAC system and parking lot light poles. Staff at the Oakland Coliseum branch was reassigned to other local DMV offices during the nearly eight-month long closure.
During the closure, the facility underwent extensive repairs to replace the HVAC system, clean air ducts, and replace other damaged infrastructure. Additional security measures were also added, the DMV said, to deter future vandalism.
“The DMV’s top priority is to protect the health and safety of its team members and customers,” the DMV said.
