Strong geomagnetic storms from the sun created the perfect conditions for the northern lights to gleam in the night sky over much of the U.S. on Tuesday night.
“Aurora may be seen as low as Alabama and northern California,” an alert from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said.
