Late-Night North Oakland Parking Lot Clash Leaves 33-Year-Old Dead

A late-night argument in a North Oakland store parking lot turned deadly Thursday when a 33-year-old man was shot and later died at a hospital, authorities said.

The shooting happened around 10:05 p.m. in a parking lot in the 5900 block of Market Street. Oakland police said an argument broke out and escalated before shots were fired. The suspect took off before officers arrived, and the victim, whose name has not been released, could not be saved despite being rushed to a hospital.

Investigators believe the victim was a San Leandro resident and are still trying to figure out why he was in Oakland that night, according to the East Bay Times. Detectives are also working to determine what sparked the argument and whether the men knew each other. The paper reports the killing is the 61st homicide Oakland police have investigated so far this year.
