Orinda Police Nab ‘Porch Pirate’ Thanks to Alert Resident and Home Surveillance Footage

Orinda Police officials reported a successful apprehension of a ‘porch pirate’ after a resident’s quick thinking and home surveillance technology played a pivotal role. Last Sunday, a theft occurred on Big Leaf Road, where a suspect stole two packages from a resident’s front porch. Luckily, a sharp-eyed homeowner caught the suspicious act on a Ring camera and turned the footage over to authorities. This digital evidence, along with additional video from nearby security cameras, allowed police to track down the thief.

An officer later spotted the suspect’s vehicle described in the surveillance footage. Upon confrontation, the man behind the wheel bore a striking resemblance to the individual in the videos. A search of the vehicle turned up the empty boxes of the stolen goods, along with burglary tools. The suspect was subsequently arrested on misdemeanor theft and possession of burglary tools.
