General Grant Tree marks 100 years as Nation’s Christmas Tree

KINGS CANYON, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – For a hundred years, a wreath has been laid every year at the base of the General Grant Tree inside Kings Canyon National Park.

The tree, also known as the Nation’s Christmas Tree, is nearly 270 feet tall.

“Through storms and dry weather, through wars and depressions and all the rest. People have come back here over and over again because somehow this strikes some chord within us,” said Dr. William Tweed, former Chief Naturalist for Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks, at the ceremony on Sunday.
