GNC is closing at San Francisco Centre on Dec. 29, according to a sign near the store’s entrance on Tuesday. Some of the nutritional supplement shop’s shelves are already partially empty.
The company is directing customers to another location at 722 Market St., joining almost every other tenant in leaving the beleaguered mall. Aritzia, H&M and Shake Shack are all shutting down in the coming weeks, citing the new owner’s order to vacate and termination of existing leases.
A complete shutdown of the mall has not been confirmed, but retail experts previously said doing so would cut expenses like utility and security costs. The mall is down to fewer than 20 remaining tenants, or less than 10% of around 200 businesses before the pandemic…
