Oakland man arrested in Castro French bulldog theft; dog still missing

San Francisco police have arrested an Oakland man in connection with the theft of a French bulldog taken in the Castro earlier this month, police said, but the dog has yet to be located. Dante Shaw, 44, of Oakland was arrested on suspicion of the theft. Officers responded on Dec. 10 at about 11:44 p.m. to reports of a dog stolen near the 400 block of Castro Street. The victim told police an unknown man picked up his 4-year-old tan French bulldog, named Hank, from the sidewalk and ran off.

Hank is valued at more than $950. Police released a photo of the dog and are asking anyone who sees Hank to call 911 with the location and a description of anyone in possession of the dog.

Officers located Shaw on Wednesday inside his vehicle at San Carlos Avenue and High Street, where he was detained. A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of evidence related to the theft, police said.The SFPD Burglary Unit led the investigation and obtained a search warrant for Shaw’s vehicle…
