Two East Bay men have admitted to carrying out a violent, weeks-long armed robbery spree that hit gas stations, convenience stores and a fast food restaurant, with prosecutors detailing gunpoint holdups that left employees terrorized and thousands of dollars stolen.
Jaray Washington, 44, and Deante Hunt, 27, pleaded guilty Friday to carrying out a rapid series of armed robberies last year, teaming up in two cases to rob a gas station and a fast food restaurant at gunpoint, according to prosecutors. Washington admitted to eight armed robberies and to being a felon in possession of a firearm, while Hunt pleaded guilty to one count of robbery affecting interstate commerce for his role in two of the robberies.
On Jan. 31, 2024, both men robbed a gas station store in Castro Valley, prosecutors said. Washington held a store clerk at gunpoint while Hunt took money from the clerk’s pockets and demanded more cash from the register. They fled with about $1,500 in cash and 10 cartons of cigarettes…
