(KRON) — Police in Oakland are investigating two separate fatal shootings that occurred on New Year’s Day. One arrest was announced in one of the homicides, according to authorities.
The first deadly shooting was reported by a ShotSpotter activation just after 11 a.m. on Thursday in the 2700 block of East 20th Street. Arriving Oakland Police Department officers located a Berkeley man with an apparent gunshot wound. The man, who was not identified, was rushed to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries just before 3 p.m.
Homicide detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting, according to OPD. No information on a potential suspect was released as of Friday.
