A San Francisco radio station has doubled down on its fundraising campaign in a last-ditch effort to remain on-air, after getting candid with listeners about its financial struggles over the summer.
Denis Makhlin, 25, and Luis Castillo, 29, co-founded the independent station HydeFM in 2019 to provide a platform for first-time DJs and underground artists. It has since built a loyal local following and currently hosts around 70 resident DJs out of its modest Mission District studio.
“We have all this talent here and I just want to see that grow,” Makhlin told the Chronicle. “But unfortunately in reality the only way that can happen is with funding.” …
