An Oakland family is reeling and demanding answers after a hit-and-run yesterday left a woman in a hospital fighting for her life, with the driver nowhere to be found.
Relatives told KTVU the woman was walking with family members when a driver hit her and then took off without stopping. The station reviewed a short video clip from the aftermath and reported that the victim remains in critical condition.
Hit-and-runs remain a major danger
Hit-and-run crashes are not rare flukes. National traffic-safety data show they account for a significant share of serious pedestrian injuries and deaths, which is exactly why witness video and tips can be so crucial.
Nearly one in four pedestrians killed in traffic crashes in 2022 were struck by hit-and-run drivers, according to federal data from the NHTSA.
Family appeals for help
Relatives told KTVU they are pleading with neighbors and nearby businesses to check doorbell cameras and security systems and to contact police if they find anything that might help. The family says they want investigators to identify whoever was behind the wheel and make sure that person is held accountable.
