Two years before Tommy Lee Jones’s daughter, Victoria Jones, was found dead from a suspected overdose, the Oscar-winning actor took legal action in an effort to protect her.
According to Marin County Superior Court docket entries reviewed by PEOPLE, Tommy, 79, filed a petition on Aug. 7, 2023, seeking to establish a temporary conservatorship over his daughter, who was 31 at the time.
The court index shows the Men in Black star submitted a “Petition for Appointment of Temporary Conservator of the Person,” along with supporting declarations and an ex parte application. A judge approved the request days later, appointing a professional temporary conservator to oversee Victoria’s personal care. Additional docket entries reflect that the conservatorship was later extended on a short-term basis.
