The San Francisco Zoo says it has been “swamped” with demand for a vintage-style safari T-shirt after members of the global K-pop group Twice wore it during a recent visit and shared images with millions of fans online.
The surge followed social media posts by Jihyo, Jeongyeon and Mina, who toured the zoo while they were in the Bay Area between two sold-out concerts at Oakland Arena earlier this month. In photos and video posted to Instagram, the artists appear wearing the cream-colored shirt, which features a retro illustration of animals housed at the zoo.
“We were so excited when Jihyo, Jeongyeon and Mina, members of the K-pop group, TWICE, visited SF Zoo recently, and it looked like they had a great time!” the zoo wrote in a Facebook post this week. “We were also surprised and delighted that the group posted images wearing our popular vintage-style SF Zoo t-shirt, and thanks to you, it’s become a ‘thing!’”
Zoo officials said the response was immediate, with phone calls and online inquiries pouring in shortly after the posts went live…
