Oakland lost one of its favorite dive bars. New owners are bringing it back

A beloved Oakland bar closed at the end of January. Now, it’s being revived by new owners.

In November, the Lodge, a quintessential dive bar and a fixture on Piedmont Avenue for nearly 10 years, announced its forthcoming closure on Instagram. Business hadn’t rebounded since the COVID-19 pandemic, a common factor in a recent wave of East Bay restaurant and bar closings, and owner Alexeis Filipello told the Chronicle that the bar had been struggling for months.

But on Sunday, one day after it closed its doors, she announced that the Lodge, with its hunting cabin-inspired exterior and taxidermied deer inside, will reopen soon under new owners — and they’re “committed to keeping the Lodge the way it is.”…
