SF Mayor Lurie calls for hundreds of city job cuts in effort to close budget deficit

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — San Francisco is looking to reduce $400 million of annualized spending. To do that, Mayor Daniel Lurie is calling for hundreds of city jobs to be cut.

Lurie is calling for the elimination of at least 500 budgeted San Francisco city positions, according to a letter from Budget Director Sophia Kittler to city employees. The letter stated that the city cannot afford to spend its current budget on personnel costs.

“In this budget, we need to reduce salary and benefits spending by at least $100 million; this equates to a reduction of at least 500 budgeted positions across the general fund,” Kittler’s letter states…
